Our Antigua, the La Merced, is a blend of small-lot producers and comes from the volcanic
mountainsides of Agua de Volcan in Antigua. The sides of the volcano are heavily farmed because of its rich and fertile soil where the average producer owes 1-5 hectares of land. Most producers grow red bourbon and caturra varietals. Farming for small producers in this area depends a lot on the support of the local community, friends and family as often times water and fertilizer is brought in by 4x4, ruled and horses through rough ascending dirt roads and the ripe cherries are picked, bagged and brought down into town via the same manner.
This coffee is always a powerhouse of a coffee for body, sweetness and acidity since its usually comprised of 4-12 producers day lots. This complexity from blending small producers pickings adds a multitude of dimensions and fruit flavors that I often describe as fruit punch.
